The Rural Roadwater Rescue Scoping report is a collection of knowledge and experience in roadwater handling in the four Rural Roadwater Rescue partner countries.
It also includes an overview of existing digital initiatives relevant to road-adjacent water management and explores how dataspace concepts can support the development of climate adaptive waterhubs near road infrastructures.
Figure: Examples of gullies to collect roadwater from federal highways. A and B show the collection of
surface road water, C and D show the collection of surface and seeped water in large-pored noise reducing
asphalt.
The report thus forms the basis for the building of a strategy for developing climate adaptive waterhubs, the ultimate goal of the Rural Roadwater Rescue project. This strategy will be delivered in 2025. Other ingredients for the strategy will be a report on the legal framework in the EU and partner countries as well as a report on proven and promising solutions. These reports are scheduled for spring 2025.
